Assume the knight has plate-mail, chain-mail, a sword, and a kite shield. The Spartan has bronze armor, bronze shield, a spear, a javelin, and a short sword.
If the fight starts at the distance, the Spartan could throw the javelin at the knight. Assuming that the knight uses the shield to block it, it would get stuck, perhaps, in the wood, and the knight might throw the now off-balance shield aside for the moment as the Spartan charges forward. The knight could step sidewards to avoid the charge, while the Spartan proceeds to attack the knight with the spear, but without the momentum of a charge - but his blows would most likely not get past the combination of plate and chain mail, the latter of which was designed to protect against spears and arrows. Also off note is that the knight would most likely be using steel, while the Spartan would be using iron (or bronze, if equipment of an eariler era is utilized in this situation).
If the knight gets past spear-point, the Spartan may drop the pole weapon and try to close in on the knight with either his dagger or shield. Chances are, the dagger could not cut through the plate mail, and the Spartan would have to either stab in the cracks of the armor, try to get the tip through both layers of the knight's protection, or go for blunt trauma with the shield(which has limited range and could leave him open). The knight, on the other hand, has more range with his sword, could have had experience with grappling/ disarming, as well as much more target area to strike. Yes I also find this show very intriguing and at times I question with their final verdict, the spartan vs the knight would be a real good one, I would go for the knight though,Deadliest Warrior: The Spartan vs The Knight?
