They didn't have people who actually were from the IRA or Taliban. From what I recall, they were people who had knowledge of them, or had family members in those groups.
I recall one of the Taliban experts actually worked for our government in fighting terrorism.
I respect Max because he actually is very intelligent and worked with computers for the US Army.
Whether you like the match-ups or not are purely your opinion. The reason for the match ups are explained in a few of the Aftermath shows posted on the website.
The show has been very successful, and a second season has already been announced.
*edit* If you watch the Aftermath show, they explain why they don't factor in some things. A lot of things they actually do test but they just don't show it in the episode.
